How long can an airplane fly without refueling?

In Mar 2006, a chartered British Airways aircraft set a new world record for the longest non-stop commercial flight. The aircraft, a Boeing 777-200 flew non-stop from Brussels to Melbourne, a distance of 17,157 km (9,274 nm). British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his entourage were aboard the aircraft. In June 2005, Boeing flew the 777-200LR variant 21,601km in 22h 42mins without refuelling from Hong Kong to London, setting a new record for a commercial airliner. However the March 2006 London to Melbourne flight is considered to be the longest flight with paying passengers under civil transport rules. (2006 Feb data)
