Answer to Obesity in the West? - For thousands of years the San tribe
have eked out a meagre living in the Kalahari. The medicinal uses of the
hoodia cactus have been handed down from generation to generation; its
capacity to stave off hunger and thirst has proved invaluable to the San

- Pathways to Obesity Prevention Report
of a National Institutes of Health Workshop - There is an extensive
research base on obesity treatment and on the health benefits
of weight loss, but relatively little research has focused on
obesity prevention. This article summarizes results of a
workshop conducted by investigators funded under a National
Institutes of Health initiative designed to stimulate novel
research for obesity prevention. (see also

- Treatment for Child Obesity - Family-based behavioral treatment
is the most well-established intervention for the treatment of childhood
obesity. Usually, family based interventions target the obese child and
at least one or both parents. Some new research even suggests that
targeting parents as the exclusive mediator has resulted in a better
improvement in weight and obesogenic environment and behaviors, in
comparison to a setting that involved only the children or both the
children and parents.
- National Patterns of Physician Activities Related to
Obesity Management A brief 1995-96 survey
results paper (PDF) interesting, because it appears to show that
physicians are both under-reporting obesity in their patients, as well
as not prescribing multiple treatments for each obese patient where
reported.
