He lives in New York City and is that city's wealthiest resident.[1] David Koch was the Libertarian Party's Vice-Presidential candidate in the 1980 U.S. presidential election, sharing the party ticket with Ed Clark. Koch (pronounced 'coke') contributed $1.6 million to the Libertarian campaign[citation needed]. The Clark-Koch ticket received just under one million popular votes and remains the most successful Libertarian presidential campaign to date. David Koch currently serves on the board of directors of the libertarian Cato Institute and the Reason Foundation. His brother Charles Koch has also been active in organizing and funding foundations and think-tanks such as the Cato Institute. David Koch is one of four sons of oil industry innovator Fred C. Koch.
